Becoming a Debutante

Prospective debutantes may request an application and more information via the contact page of our website prior to their junior year of high school or sooner. The Cinderella Ball is open to young women of all races, nationalities, and schools.

Once a potential debutante accepts an invitation to particpate in Cinderella Ball, a Mother/Daughter Tea is held in April prior to her senior year where she will receive an information packet that lists all the pertinent details about the Ball. In order to participate in Cinderella Ball, the debutante must complete a minimum of 30 hours of volunteer service for that year’s beneficiary, primarily during the summer before her senior year. The debutante who has the most volunteer hours will receive a financial scholarship award on the night of the Ball. Throughout the year there are also additional group volunteer opportunities with other Pittsburgh-based charities and other activities to introduce all the debutantes to one another. The CWC plans a yearly leadership forum to expose the young women to successful women in all walks of life and help guide them through the college admission process.

In preparation for the evening of the Ball, debutantes are taught the perfect formal curtsy and the Father/Daughter Waltz, both beautiful moments in the formal presentation during the evening of the ball.

THE NIGHT OF THE BALL
The Ball itself is the culmination and celebration of a year volunteering at a Pittsburgh-based non-profit, a beneficiary chosen by the Cinderella Womens Committee (CWC). Cinderella Ball seeks to encourage a lifetime of philanthropy and service to our community. Since 1924, on the evening of the Ball, each debutante is presented by her father or other significant male family member to society.

We are proud of our 94 year tradition as the second-oldest debutante ball in America and Pittsurgh’s oldest charity event. We look forward to welcoming a new class of debutantes each year to follow in the footsteps of the hundreds of philanthropic and successful past debutantes.
